Visitors and New MembersIf you would like to come along to any of our meetings as a visitor or, perhaps you want to see what we get up to before joining, then you are be very welcome, just turn up or you can contact us beforehand. Our meetings are held at Stanway Community Centre (also known as Stanway Village Hall) at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of each month apart from August and December. The meetings have the form of either a demonstration or a workshop where we all have a go at making something, see our programme for the details of each meeting. After each meeting, we have a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits (included in your guest fee of £5) and a chat. We normally round off the evening with a raffle. Members range from those who do sugarcraft professionally to absolute beginners, and our evenings reflect this variation. So if you find a demonstration a bit advanced, don't worry: the next one will be less so. Workshops allow everyone to have a go at making something under the supervision of a more experienced member. They are also a good way of getting to know everyone. The cost of membership is £40 per year. Guest fees are £5. We have a number of social events. We have a Christmas buffet after our November meeting, a New Year Dinner in January and a garden party, which replaces our meeting in August. A newsletter is sent out every month detailing the next meeting and other events. Handy tips are often given here too. At each meeting, there is usually some second-hand equipment and books for sale. Sugarcraft materials can be bought in small amounts for workshops. Equipment can be borrowed from other members so you don't have to spend a lot to join in. There are also opportunities to attend external workshops; our mini workshops are very popular. A further benefit of membership is discount at the sugarcraft retailer Almond Art. We also benefit from our affiliation with the National SugarArt Association. Of course, there can be a competitive element if you wish. We have our own Christmas cake competition and a March meeting challenge. If you would like to join, please fill in the Membership Application Form and bring it with you. Rules of membership are in our Constitution please read these before signing the form. |
